This term we learnt about the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. I worked collaboratively with Miki to research and make notes about our presentation that tells you about the 2018 Snowboarding half pipe. We chose this sport because we thought it would be interesting to write about. The thing Miki and I did great on was communicating to each other.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson.

2 Words 1 Minutes Winter Olympics
Equipment Respect
This year Olympics was held in Pyeongchang. The participate train and they also get their equipment ready, for the challenge ahead, they also respect their opponents. This year Winter Olympics theme is Passion Conviction, They a lot of countries that come and watch the Olympics because they want to cheer on, their role models. They are Gold medals, Silver medals and Bronze medals. They are so much sports in the 2018 Olympics. The Winter Olympics sport has Ice and Snow, Do you know what this year logo stand for? Did you know that the top and bottom line stands for heaven and earth and the right line and left stands for people coming together and the logo above it is people coming together.
Today we used the ‘2 words 1 minute’ challenge to write a description about the Winter Olympics.
After talking in pairs about the things we knew about the winter Olympics we created a list of words
(vocabulary) that would help us write our description. We chose the words ‘equipment’ and ‘respect’
to help us think about what we were going to write.

We talked about ideas with a partner, then we had 1 minute to put those ideas into sentences.
We had to try our best to use all the words on our vocab list. After the minute was up we had 2
minutes to reread what we had written and make changes if anything didn’t make sense,
or if we had words and punctuation in the wrong place. When we finished checking we had 2
more minutes to carry on writing our descriptions.

All the word I highlighted in my paragraph are the words I used on my word list. Today I did really well on using my word list. I need to work on my powerful words so that I paint a picture in the readers head.

Where is PyeongChang?
I created this DLO that shows how far away PyeongChang is from Auckland. I now know PyeongChang is in South Korea. South Korea is a country near the Thailand, which is where I come from. One fact I found really interesting is that, the first Olympics was in Chamonix, France in 1924.
