How have Camels adapted to their environment?

How have camels adapted to their environment?

Have you ever wondered how camels survive in the desert? Camels survives in the
desert because it has special features that protect them from the 42 degrees sand.

Have you ever wondered how camels survive in the desert? Camels survives in the
desert because it has special features that protect them from the 42 degrees sand.

Desert is a dried place but the camels can walk on because they have pads on they feet
and also on their chest, so they can lay down on the hot sand. Camels have fat in their
humps because it stores food.

Camels doesn’t get sand in their eyes because they have double layer eyelash. They
don’t get sand in their ears because they have hair in it that protect it from the sand.
They also don’t get hair in they nose because they can close their nose. Camels have
thick lips so they can eat cactus.

Camels can survive in the 42 degree dessert because it is used to it own environment.
They can also drink up to 46 liters of water in one go which is 42 of 1 liter coke
bottle. Have you ever wondered why camels lives in the desert.

This Week for writing we write an explanation about Camels and how they adapt to
their environment. Before we started our writing we watch 3 video clips, we also got
our books because we needed it for our planning. I enjoyed writing this week because
I learnt about Camels and how they adapt to their environment.

How to make a Hangi?

How to make a Hangi?

Hangi is a Traditional food that is made in a pit, and Men prepares the Hangi and women prepares the food. It is important to know this because it is a special earth oven to the Maori culture.

First dig a pit that the food will cook in. Then heat up the iron to warm the earth, and do a karakia for the food, environment and also for them self to keep them safe. After the iron is heat they stop the fire and make another hole to put the iron in.

Once they finish making another pit they started to move the iron and put wet cabbage leaves on top of the iron to make the steam. After they finish covering it with cabbage leaves they put the meat on before they put the vegetable because the meat needed more heat to cook properly.

After they placed the meat and vegetable they cover it with wet sacks to keep the steam inside and also to protect it from the dirt. It took about 3 to 4 hours for the food to be cooked. After 3 to 4 hours they unearth the dirt and remove the food from the pit.

Once they take the foods back the women prepare it for dinner. Hangi is a traditional oven that is prepared by men, but the food is prepared by the women. It is important to know about this because it means that you are showing respect to the Maori people, and it may come in handy

This week for writing we did explanation. For explanation we write about Hangi, and how to make a Hangi. Before we started our explanation we watched a video and then did our planning. What I enjoyed about this activity was how to make the Hangi, it was really interesting because I never knew that Maori's had an earth oven.

Pechaflickr

This week for writing we learnt about Pechaflickr. My partner Kanye and I created a google slide to put our images, and a google drawing for our planing. For our planing we needed to link our ideas to each other so they made sense. We also needed to describe what was happening in the pictures. I enjoyed creating a Pechaflickr because it was really challenging. The thing that challenged me the most was finding the image that matched the correct sentence.

My first ever flight

My first ever flight

I lived at the end of the wood with my family. As the sun went down and the moon slowly watched over us my family woke up. One night I said to myself “Tonight's the night of my first flight!” I felt nervous and scared but suddenly I had the feeling that I could do it. The wind dashed behind me but luckily my talons kept me from flying away. I lifted one leg and was quivering, but I still focused on my meal, so I let my wings feel freedom. “I’m ready to fly,” I whispered to myself but my family heard me so they came to cheer me on. I was ready to launch, so I leap off the edge. I was scared because I thought I was going to fall, when I suddenly realized I was flying with the wind. I imagine all the time I’ve wanted to fly and this was the chance. I heard cheering around me and it motivated me to keep going. I saw my parents and sibling smiling. I felt proud of myself because it was my first ever flight. “Yes I’m flying.” I murmured to myself. I spread my wings like an airplane. I feel the strong gush of the night air pass my face and try to stay strong. I flapped my wings to gain speed and veered around in circles feeling happy of myself. What was supposed to be a boring flight had just gone a whole lot more better! Suddenly out of nowhere I hear my stomach crying for food. So I let out examining for my favorite snack. “Slimy, wet worms”. I whispered to myself.

This term my group were focusing on writing narratives. We wrote a narrative about our first ever flight. I started off with a struggle but then I had help from my teacher. I tried to use more advanced word for example instead of using look I wrote examine. I think next time I need to write more information in my narratives .I enjoyed writing this narrative and hope to write another narrative.

Did you know that the top and bottom line stands for heaven and earth and the right line and left stands for people coming together and the logo above it is people coming together.

Today we used the ‘2 words 1 minute’ challenge to write a description about the Winter Olympics.
After talking in pairs about the things we knew about the winter Olympics we created a list of words
(vocabulary) that would help us write our description. We chose the words ‘equipment’ and ‘respect’
to help us think about what we were going to write.

We talked about ideas with a partner, then we had 1 minute to put those ideas into sentences.
We had to try our best to use all the words on our vocab list. After the minute was up we had 2
minutes to reread what we had written and make changes if anything didn’t make sense,
or if we had words and punctuation in the wrong place. When we finished checking we had 2
more minutes to carry on writing our descriptions.

All the word I highlighted in my paragraph are the words I used on my word list. Today I did really well on using my word list. I need to work on my powerful words so that I paint a picture in the readers head.

Let me Tell you something about..."

Let me tell you something about lunchtime at PBS. When the bell rings everyone rushes like wild animals chasing its prey, When they get to their lunch they eat their sandwiches so fast, it’s like the speed of light. Once they finish they sprint down the stairs like baby gorillas, They all race to the four square grid just to play a game of handball, Once they get there, they wait for the person with the ball. If the person with the ball is not there yet they wait but same of the players play master. The people playing master shoot so fast you can hear “yay” every time. The younger students run around with lots of energy, they run like wild foxes. They’re like superheroes with lots of energy, because they don’t ever get tired of running. The person with the hand ball gets to the courts and every player runs to the line waiting to play, We can hear loud shouting and screaming, If the winner win’s they shout,  “Yahoo! I Win! I Win! I’m King!” The loser always replies by saying, “I’m going to get you out because you got me out!” or “I’m the real King, haha!”. But once the bell rings everyone still wanted to play so they keep playing for a few moments until the teacher tells them to go to class.

For today’s writing we had to partner up with the person were sitting next to, my partner was Joshua W. We did writing for 4 minutes, once the 4 minutes up we had to proofread it to each other, Joshua read my writing and his feedback was not to use got and get too much, He also told me to use more powerful words to make my describing clear. I tried to use language feature so we can hook in our reader.
