Life 1870

John, Joshua V, Affonso and I used our smart searching skills to find the types of jobs that women and men in New Zealand this in the 1870's. We noticed that the jobs people did back then were a lot more physical than many of the jobs we do today because they didn't have the technology we do to help them.

My first ever flight

My first ever flight

I lived at the end of the wood with my family. As the sun went down and the moon slowly watched over us my family woke up. One night I said to myself “Tonight's the night of my first flight!” I felt nervous and scared but suddenly I had the feeling that I could do it. The wind dashed behind me but luckily my talons kept me from flying away. I lifted one leg and was quivering, but I still focused on my meal, so I let my wings feel freedom. “I’m ready to fly,” I whispered to myself but my family heard me so they came to cheer me on. I was ready to launch, so I leap off the edge. I was scared because I thought I was going to fall, when I suddenly realized I was flying with the wind. I imagine all the time I’ve wanted to fly and this was the chance. I heard cheering around me and it motivated me to keep going. I saw my parents and sibling smiling. I felt proud of myself because it was my first ever flight. “Yes I’m flying.” I murmured to myself. I spread my wings like an airplane. I feel the strong gush of the night air pass my face and try to stay strong. I flapped my wings to gain speed and veered around in circles feeling happy of myself. What was supposed to be a boring flight had just gone a whole lot more better! Suddenly out of nowhere I hear my stomach crying for food. So I let out examining for my favorite snack. “Slimy, wet worms”. I whispered to myself.

This term my group were focusing on writing narratives. We wrote a narrative about our first ever flight. I started off with a struggle but then I had help from my teacher. I tried to use more advanced word for example instead of using look I wrote examine. I think next time I need to write more information in my narratives .I enjoyed writing this narrative and hope to write another narrative.

This is why we need a Skeletal System

Today for inquiry we created a Gif about the skeletal systems. We used EzGif to to create this Gif. We used Play-Doh and toothpick to create a human figure to show you what it looks like without bones and with bones. The toothpick stands for the "skeleton" on the human clay. We learnt that there are 300 bones for new borns and 206 for adults. The reason why we created this Gif was to show you why we need the skeletal system and how important our framework of bones are.

Word Clines

Today we created a DLO about words clines. All the words had to mean the same thing and to relate to the same topic. I think that clines are words that we can use to make more powerful sentences.

A summer and winter walk

In summer I get dressed for school and make sure my arms see the sunlight.
The street awake and chattering.
Trees motionless and attractive.
Birds are flying and whistling.
Clouds high in the sky and far, far away from humanity.
Carefree people laugh and smile.
The bell goes but no one hurries to class.

In winter I get dressed for school and make sure my arms are hidden from the darkness.
The street asleep and silent.
Trees moving and unsightly.
Birds are hiding in their nests.
Heavy clouds are low in the sky, nearly touching the earth.
Downcast people moan and whine
The bell goes and everyone hurries to class.

Today John, Miki and I, wrote our own version of Two Day Wonder by David Hill. The poem was a about a good day and bad day. We created our own version that describes walking to school in summer and in winter to show how writers can use juxtaposition to paint a clear picture in the reader's mind. Juxtaposition is when two things are side by side that are opposites.

To help us use powerful describing words we looked at synonyms. We then used the synonyms to create a word cline. This helped us to see some words are stronger than other words. We tried to use strong words to hook in our audience by painting a picture in their mind,

Hineahuone

This Term for inquiry we read a book called Hieahuone. Freeman and I created a storyboard that to show the story in our own words. we had to draw it on paper before we created a storyboard that. The thing Freeman and I did great was coming up with new Ideas.

The Unfinished Drink

This term for Poetry we learnt about a poem called The Unfinished Drink. We created a DLO, with a 25 word summary. The 25 word summary was about La Tour Mollet (Ted) D'Auvergne and how he didn't finished his drink before he went to war. This story was sad and happy, the sad part was that he died in the war and the happy part was that people remembered him.
